Introducing the Junior Junior Knights Program
Submitted By Kevin Gardner on Tuesday, October 04, 2011

The Program:

The London Junior Knights feel the most effective way to help develop the skills of players in our organization is to provide them with a consistent program working on individual skills. This is best accomplished when players are training with players of similar talent levels and or age.

The London Junior Knights are pleased to facilitate the Junior/Junior Knights Novice development program. We are targeting 60 Novice aged players that have aspirations of playing in the Junior Knights program for the 2012/13 season. The program will give the registered participants a glimpse of what is to be a Junior Knight!
It will also give our coaches an opportunity to see a large number of Novice players before our April tryouts.

Pro-Tips Sports will be helping to facilitate the on ice portion of this program along with some of our coaches at the younger age groups.

On average Forest City competitive novice teams has 2 hours of practice time per week. Often the majority of practice time is allocated to team systems and tactical instruction. The ratio of skill development to tactical and positional instruction is often skewed.

Productive skill development ratios should be in the following range:

·        Novice / Atom: 80/10/10 (skill development / tactical / positional)

·        Peewee / Bantam / Midget: 60/20/20 (skill development / tactical / positional)

·        Junior: 40/30/30

To help supplement the skill development ratio we will offer competitive novice players (19) 1 hour sessions throughout the season.

Staff:

Pro-Tips Sports, in conjunction with London Junior Knight’s coaches. We will also have guest instructors from the London Knights.

Cost:

$350 ($395 incl. HST). Program includes professional instruction, insurance coverage and Junior Knights practice jersey. Maximum 60 participants, broken into either 2 or 3 groups based upon numbers.

Dates:

October 24 - March 6 (19) Weeks *(No sessions on Dec. 26 and 27)

Times: Mondays and Tuesdays 4:30 at the Western Fair.

Total Sessions (19) *Participants must register for all 19 sessions.

Sessions are on multiple days (Mondays and Tuesdays) for maximum participation and avoidance of conflicts with Forest City practice schedules. Students will be assigned to either Monday or Tuesday, but will have the options to do makeup sessions if there is a conflict.

Session Specifics:

The (19) sessions will be broken down into (4) quadrants, with a specific skill focused on.

Section #1 Power Skating

Section #2 Passing / Puckhandling / Shooting

Section #3 Position specific drills (all players will learn all positions)

Section #4 Game specific drills, 1on1/2on1/3on2

There will also be a periodic scrimmage component to our sessions throughout the program.

In conclusion, our goal is to expose as many high caliber Novice age players to all that the Junior Knights has to offer.

In addition to having the best instruction available, we will also plan on attending a London Knights game
and get a tour of the London Knights dressing room. Our goal is to have each individual player and his family,
walk away with a fantastic first impression of our organization and all it has to offer!!
