2012 Huskies Tournament Champs!!
After a hockey filled weekend and thanks to great efforts by all we are returning to London as the 2012 Humberview Huskies Invitational Tournament Atom AA Champions!

We started the weekend off with an early game on Friday against the Gloucester Rangers. We game out strong and were able to maintain puck control leading us to a good start with a 6-1 victory. We out shot the Rangers 28-8 and this helped increase our confidence going into game 2.
Later on Friday we faced off against the Nepean Raiders and with our momentum building we continued our display of puck control and team play. With the shot totals coming in at 23-6 we took another win 6-0.
Early on Saturday we were back at the rink for tough game against the Toronto Wolverines. The play of the many big Wolverines girls was very physical and was a good challenge for us. With extra effort from all we pushed through to another win 4-1 and also continued controlling the puck out shooting Toronto 23-7.
Next in the day for us was a visit to the Ricoh Colliseum to watch the home opener of the Toronto Marlies. What a great experience with the kids and some siblings and even the coaches getting the opportunity to take the ice during the anthems and hold the Canada flag high! The Marlies started their season with a victory and our winning weekend continued.
Sunday morning it was us versus the only other undefeated team in the tournament the hosts, the Humberview Huskies. We wanted to come out strong and we did. With a 2-0 lead things were looking good as we moved the puck well and maintained possession. Humberview changed their game plan and began playing a physical, clutch and grab game and before we could make our adjustments we found the game tied 2-2. We rallied, battled even harder and pulled out the 3-2 win out shooting them 22-11 and leaving us as the only undefeated teaming leading into the finals.
There were 3 teams with the possibility of making it into the finals with us and it looked like it might come down to goal differential. Two of the teams didn't get the victories they wanted and this found us facing the same Huskies in the finals. They were determined to get back the earlier loss. Right from the drop of the puck we dominated the game. We moved the puck well and kept it in their end for the majority of the game. Unfortunately with a few small mistakes in our end and some bad luck they were able to jump out to a 2-0 lead. The pressure was on us to bounce back and get into the game. We continued to pressure them with a constant barrage of shots on their net. Their goalie must have played the game of his life as he was making save after save and frustrating us with his unbelievable play. Relentlessly we continue to pressure and were eventually rewarded with 2 goals. The team wanted the victory and tried valiantly to score the game winner before time ran out in third. Once again their goalie saved the day and forced us into overtime. We knew this was our game to win and pushing even harder now we pressured the Huskies and kept the puck in their end. We cycled, we passed, we shot.... we were down low, up high... we were all over them and then with a shot from the point it was over. Hollywood's seeing eye shot found it's way into the twine and we were the victors!! In the end we had out shot them 54-8.
What a great ending to a great weekend.

This weekend was a "golden" opportunity for us to improve our team play, gain more confidence and earn some hardware. We did all of those things and more....

Great job team!!!
