Annual Iron Horse Classic & London Junior Knights Minor Peewee gear up to raise funds for charity
Submitted By Webmaster on Wednesday, July 11, 2018
The Annual Iron Horse Class event in its 7th year, will be held August 18th, 2018 at Caradoc Sands, Strathroy, ON.  The event is in support of raising funds for Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS), often referred to as "Lou Gehrig's Disease”.  Previous year’s events combined have raised over $50,000 for ALS Canada.

Local London resident Doug Clark (grandfather to an LJK team member) was diagnosed November 2010.  Since the diagnosis, Doug and his family have been educating and raising awareness about the disease. They have found much support from friends and family and the community.  Sadly, Doug passed away on January 12th, 2015.  His family continues to support ALS related events throughout the year – this year the London Junior Knights Minor Peewee AAA team have decided to join forces to raise money for this charity – because together, anything is possible!

Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is a progressive neurodegenerative disease that affects nerve cells in the brain and the spinal cord. Motor neurons reach from the brain to the spinal cord and from the spinal cord to the muscles throughout the body. The progressive degeneration of the motor neurons in ALS eventually leads to their death. When the motor neurons die, the ability of the brain to initiate and control muscle movement is lost. With voluntary muscle action progressively affected, patients in the later stages of the disease may become totally paralyzed
All support is greatly appreciated!
