    Tournament Rules

    1. Travel Permits: All teams must supply a travel permit prior to the tournament.American teams are requested to submit a USA Hockey Travel permit while Canadian teams are requested to submit their league Travel permits.Your team may not begin play until your travel permit is handed in.If you are unsure of how to get your travel permit please ask your Club’s GM.

    2. Eligible Players:Only players whose names appear on the first game sheet are eligible to play. Players may play for only one team registered in the tournament.

    3. Changing a call on a gamesheet: The tournament hasno authority or ability to overturn or change any penalty or suspension appearing on the game sheet.

    4. Body Checking: There is NO body checking in the Minor Atom, Atom, Minor Peewee or Peewee divisions. Body checking is permitted in the Minor Bantam division.

    5. OHF Minimum Suspesions:The tournament will be played under OHF (Ontario Hockey Federation) rules regarding length of suspensions. The OHF website is located at www.ohf.on.caThe tournament office will maintain a hard copy for viewing by cared team officials.

    6. Suspensions:Should a player or team official receive a suspension, the tournament will text your team contact a "suspension notification".However it is the responsibility of each team to ensure any player or team official who has been assessed a game suspension sits out the required amount of games as per OHF minimum suspension rules. Failure to comply will result in the offending team forfeiting the game, which will be recorded as a 1-0 loss.

    7. Tournament Office:The tournament office is for tournament officials and team staff only.

    8. Team Official Pre-Game Registration Process:One carded team official is required to check in at the tournament office one hour prior to each game to complete and verify the game sheet. Prior to the team’s first game, please ensure you bring with you:

    • A copy of your team’s travel permit
    • A copy of your team’s official roster

    Note 1: Players and coaches donothave to sign the game sheet.

    Note 2: Last team to complete the game sheet is responsible to bring the completed game sheet to the bench where it is to be given to the referees.

    9. Jerseys:The home team will wear light colored jerseys.

    10. Time between Game start-times:GTHL rules allow for a minimum three-hour spread between published start times.

    11. Period Lengths: All games shall have three (3) fifteen minute stop time periods (unless under curfew).

    12. Overtime in a Round Robin Game:Should a round robin game end in a tie after regulation time has expired, one three-minute, 3 on 3 overtime period will be played with a running clock.Teams will not change ends for the overtime. Any unexpired penalties shall remain in force. If a team takes a penalty during the overtime period, teams will play four (4) on three (3) -teams may not play with less than three skaters. Player changes may only take place on the fly and not on a whistle.

    13. Points:Two points for a regulation victory; one point for a regulation tie; one additional point awarded to the wining team for an overtime win. Round Robin games won in overtime will be displayed as a win for the winning team and an OTL for the losing team.If the overtime ends without a winner the game will be displayed as a tie.

    14. Scheduled Game Starts:All teams must be prepared to playfifteen (15) minutesahead of schedule. Failure to comply may result in the offending team being assessed a two minute Delay of Game penalty to start the game.

    15. Timeouts:No timeouts are permitted during round robin play or round robin overtime. One 30sec timeout per team is allowed during the quarterfinals, semifinals and Gold and Bronze Medal finals.

    16. Curfew: Each round robin game has been allotted 80 minutes to play, including a flood before each game. If for any reason a game may not be completed on time, a member of the tournament staff may notify each team that a running clock will close out the remainder of the game.

    17. Dressing Rooms:Dressing rooms are assigned by each arena and will be posted on the arena monitors. A team may not keep their dressing rooms between games.Separate dressing rooms will be available for female players – please make the tournament aware of your dressing room requirements 14 days prior to the tournaments start.

    18. Locks:The arenas“do not”supply locks for the dressing room. Please bring your own lock.

    19. Pre-Game Warm-up:Teams are provided with a two (2) minute on ice warm-up prior to the start of each game. Players are NOT allowed on the ice for their pre-game warm-up until at least one referee is on the ice.The offending team will be given a two-minute minor penalty to start the game.

    20. Pre-Game Handshakes:Teams shall line up a centre ice after warm-up and touch gloves.

    21. On-Ice Game Officials:Two GTHL referees have been hired for each game, three in Minor Bantam. In the event a referee is late or is a no-show,GTHL rules allow games to begin and end with one referee in the Minor Atom, Atom, Minor Peewee and Peewee divisions and 2 referees in the Minor Bantam division.

    22. Off-Ice Officials: A timekeeper has been hired for each game. In the event a timekeeper is late or is a no-show, tournament rules call for the home team to supply the timekeeper.

    23. Forfeit:Offending teams will be assessed a 1-0 loss.

    24. Mercy Rule:If a team has a five (5) goal spread or more anytime during the third period a running clock will commence. Stop time will resume if the differential is reduced to three (3) goals.

    25. Protests:All protests may be brought forward to the Tournament Governing Committee, in writing, within 60 minutes of the conclusion of the game. The committee's decision will be deemed final.

    26. Tournament Standings:Tournament standings are available online on our website atwww.repshockey.com-just click on the Shanahan logo to enter the tournament home page and click on STANDINGS.

    27. Two Team Tie Breaking Round Robin Formula:If two teams are tied in points, within their division, or for the purpose of choosing wildcard(s) after the round robin, the following tiebreaker format shall be used:

    A1: Winner of round robin head to head game

    A2: Most round robin wins

    A3: Best GFavg

    A4: Fewest goals against

    A5: Most goals scored

    A6:The team that scored the first goal between the two teams

    A7: Single coin toss by a tournament director

     

    28. Three or More Team Tie Breaking Round Robin Formula:If any step in this tiebreaking formula seeds just one team, that one team assumes the higher position. The tiebreaker will then continue on from that point to determine the seeding of the remaining teams.At no time will this formula revert back to using the two-team tiebreaker formula.

    B1: Team with the most points earned from games played between the tied teams ONLY

    B2: Most wins

    B3: Best GAavg

    B4: Fewest goals against

    B5: Most goals for

    B6: Single coin toss by a tournament director

     

    29. Overtime in all Semi-finals, quarter finals and Finals:If the game ends in a tie after regulation time has expired, teams will play three (3) on three (3) for three minutes with a running clock. If a team takes a penalty, teams will play four (4) on three (3) -teams may not play with less than three skaters. Players may only change on the fly. If the game is still tied, a three-man sudden death shoot out will decide the winner.

    30. Three-Man Sudden Death Shoot-Out:All skaters are to be sitting on their respective benches prior to the shootout. The referee will place two pucks on opposite sides of the centre circle. The home teams puck shall be the puck closest to the player’s bench. Once the pucks are in place the first two shooters take their spot on their respective blue lines. On the whistle the shootout commences until a winner is declared. No skater may shoot more than once until all skaters have shot.

    31. Penalties in the semi-finals, quarterfinals or finals overtime and its effect on a sudden death shoot out:If a player takes a penalty in the three (3) on three (3) overtime and that penalty does not expire before the end of the overtime, the penalized player maynotparticipate in the shoot out.

    Mississauga Rebels Border Battle Showcase Rules

    Tournament Director:

    The Tournament Director shall be responsible for resolving all inquiries or disputes regarding off-ice rule application or interpretation, player eligibility, disciplinary action or any other procedural disputes. He or she will not overturn any dispute concerning rules and/or the judgment applied by on-ice officials. All decisions of the Tournament Director are final.

    Team Manager

    The Team Manager must register 60 minutes prior to their first game.

    The Mississauga Rebels Border Battle will have a Rink Manager at each arena. All team representatives are responsible for checking for any schedule changes, player suspensions and other important information pertinent to their team and its participation in this event.

    All teams must use the locker room assigned to them for each game.  lt is the team manager/ team representatives’ responsibility to ensure that the locker room is maintained and kept clean (no trash / tape / food or drink on the floor) prior to vacating the locker room after each game. The team manager/representative is responsible for all damage done to the locker room, equipment in the locker, or the facility.

    Each team/team manager is responsible for the safeguarding of all team items in the locker rooms. The facility and/or host organization assume no liability or responsibility for any theft or damage due to team negligence.

    Managers will make parents, bench staff and players aware that the Mississauga Rebels Border Battle supports the USA Hockey and Hockey Canada Zero Tolerance Initiatives for verbal abuse of any player, official, parent or spectator. The Tournament Director or Rink Staff reserves the right to remove any violator from the premises.

    Please check the schedule 24 hours before your game start time to ensure no changes have occurred. Game times and locations are subject to change.

    Game Sheet Stickers:

    We will be using GTHL game sheets for our tournament. Managers – please have roster stickers/roster labels ready for your game sheets. Four (4) stickers/roster labels are required per game sheet. If you are playing a total of five (5) games, then a total of TWENTY (20) stickers are required.

    Player Eligibility:

    A player may only play for one team in his own age group. A player must appear on the official roster. Every team must be USA Hockey or Hockey Canada registered for Insurance purposes. Cross border teams must have proper Travel permits. A copy of travel documents must be submitted to SuperSeries AAA before the event. Please submit this documentation to [email protected] upon receipt of this email if you have yet to do so.

    Jerseys:

    Home and visiting teams are indicated on the tournament schedule.
    Home teams shall wear light colored jerseys.
    Visitors will wear dark jerseys.
    All jerseys must have a player number clearly displayed.
    Jerseys with taped numbers or jerseys without numbers will not be permitted to be worn.

    Mouth Guards:

    All players in the tournament are required to wear a colored – non-clear mouth guards. The only exceptions are Canadian players who are not required to wear a mouth guard in regular league play or Squirt aged players who follow USA Hockey rules. .

    Neck Guards:

    All Canadian players must wear a neck guard. American teams are not required to wear neck guards.

    Checking:

    There will be NO checking permitted in the Atom and PeeWee age brackets.
    Checking will be permitted in the Bantam a bracket.

    Early Start Option:

    All teams must be prepared to play their games fifteen (15) minutes prior to scheduled start time in the event games are ahead of schedule. Players must be ready to step onto the ice when the Zamboni finishes between games. Please have your teams prepared.

    Penalty Box:

    Each team is responsible for providing its own penalty box attendant

    Warm Ups:

    A three (3) minute warm up will take place before the start time of the game. Pucks will NOT be provided. Please bring warm up pucks for your team.

    Time Outs:

    One 30 second time out is permitted per team per game.

    Length of Periods:

    Games are 3 x 15 minute stop time periods unless otherwise noted.
    Bantam games will be played on Friday and Saturday with an ice cut/flood between the second and third period. The ice cut/flood has been removed for Sunday’s games.

    All games will be played to completion.

    Period Break:

    There will be a one (1) minute break between each period. It is the responsibility of the coach to ensure their team is ready to go at the start of each period and the sound of the buzzer after timeouts.

    Mercy Rule:

    The mercy rule shall be in effect. If a team at any point during the third period is leading by 5 or more goals the clock will revert to running time. If the difference is reduced to 3 goals or less, the clock will revert back to stop time.

    Officials:

    All on-ice officials are currently and completely registered and in good standing with Hockey Canada and their respective Provincial Association (GTHL). Games will be played under GTHL Hockey rules

    Please note that the Mississauga Rebels cannot change or alter decisions made by on ice Hockey officials.

    Penalties/Match Penalties:

    Penalty times will be as follows: Minor 2:00 minutes, Major 5:00 minutes, Misconduct 10:00 minutes.

    Any player and/or team official who is in receipt of a match penalty or gross misconduct will be suspended for any remaining games and subject to discipline as outlined in the GTHL Minimum Suspension List.
    Any player that receives a second major penalty will result in an ejection from the remaining games of the weekend.

    On Ice Altercations:

    This Showcase abides by the rules and regulations set forth by the GTHL. If a game is interrupted by on ice fighting between players and /or bench staff, then the clock will continue to run. Games times will not be restored until the whistle has blown on the play that immediately follows the on ice fight. Minutes lost will not be restored.

    Forfeited Games:

    Any forfeited games will be recorded as a 3-0 score.

    Goal Differential:

    The maximum goal differential attainable per game is +/-  7.

    Awarding of Points:

    2 points for a win

    1 point for a tie

    0 points for a loss
