LJK Regional SilverStick Champions
Fresh off the holiday break the LJK Minor Peewee Green team travelled to Stratford to try and capture the coveted Silverstick Regional title and an invitation to the Newmarket Finals - International Silverstick tournament.
In pool play wins over Orangville 4-1, Woodstock 7-0 and Waterloo 2-1 allowed the team to advance as the top seed.
In the semis, the team took on the hometown Stratford Warrior team where LJK looked to be getting close to leaving town empty handed but two goals in the last 5 minutes managed to be enough to escape with a 4-3 win.
The finals brought a highly motivated Waterloo Wolves Gold team to the rink and the Knights found themselves down 1-0 until midway through the 3rd when a point shot knotted the game at 1. Overtime was needed and not only offered excitement but a crazy finish, a Waterloo hand on the puck in the crease set up an LJK penalty shot and a few seconds later a 2-1 victory. Full marks to the Waterloo Gold team who competed very hard and were more than a handful.
The LJK win sets up a trip to Newmarket for the International Silverstick from Jan 16-19th.
Well done Team - Go Knights Go in Newmarket!!
