Undefeated at the Nations Cup
Team Green traveled to Michigan this past weekend for the Nations Cup Tournament.
The Nations Cup is a battle between Canadian & American teams. Teams wear their country's jerseys & earn points for each victory that go towards their Nations total amount. The country with the most points is declared the winner of the Nations Cup.
We certainly did our part for Team Canada going 3-0-1 in the round-robin beating St. Louis 5-2, Mt. Clemens 5-0, Chicago 4-3 & tying Kensington Valley 3-3. The game vs Mt. Clemens on Friday night had to be my favorite as the passing & teamwork displayed by our team was just awesome.
The championship game (#1 Canada vs #1 USA) was a re-match between London Knights Green & Kensington Valley. The atmosphere was electric including national anthems & fans cheering on their country. The game was a war with a ton of penalties but our boys battled through it coming out on top 3-1. Unfortunately Team Canada wasn't able to collectively earn enough points & Team USA took the overall title. This was a little hard to explain to the kids as we went undefeated but regardless we won the individual title & consider ourselves the champs.
Having the opportunity to wear a Team Canada jersey & play for your country is not something every hockey player will have the chance to experience. I hope this was a weekend they'll never forget including the fun times at the hotel & carry on the lessons learned in the big games going forward. Really proud of our team.
Go Green!
