2018 Oktoberfest Minor Atom AA Champions!
After having two league games the days leading into the Oktoberfest tournament in Kitchener October 19-21st, the team felt and looked good. Early mornings and late nights didn't stop the white team from going out, working hard with determination to take the tournament.
Day 1: would see our boys face the Hillcrest Canadiens in an early morning game and Copper Cliff Redman taking home wins in both with some outstanding passing.
Day 2: the team would see two strong teams in the Barrie Colts (5-1 win) and the Scarborough Ice Raiders. The Ice Raiders ended up winning the game 3-2 with a couple weird bounces. This loss would motivate the boys but also put them into an early Sunday morning (7:30am!) quarter final against the Mississauga Terriers. It would also mean 3 games to make it into the finals. Early bedtime for all!
Day 3: Bring on the Mississauga Terriers! The boys jumped out with heart but would be in trouble early with the Terriers leading 1-0. This team has no quit in them and won the game 7-4 putting them into the semi finals against the undefeated Clarington Toros. The team would win the semi finals 4-3 with our goalie making some amazing saves when it was really needed.
Onto the finals against the Scarborough Young Bruins - it was an exciting game. 0-0 after the first period with some amazing pressure by the forwards, great defense and stellar goaltending. Finally the boys got on the board with 25 second left in the second period. Grit and determination and lots of parent/grandparents and siblings cheering them on brought them to a 4-1 win and the championship! 7 tournament games with 3 in the final day seemed no challenge for the boys (even though they slept really well Sunday night!)
